Eagles soar

Listen to this article

Blue Eagles FC are floating on air as they are the only team that has been issued an outright licence by the First Instant Body (FIB) to participate in the TNM Super League in the 2022 season.

In an interview yesterday

Foosball Association of Malawi (FAM) licencing and compliance manager Casper Jangale said three other teams, namely Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers and Ekwendeni Hammers have been given provisional licences.

He said the other 12 teams, Mighty Wanderers, Moyale Barracks, TN Stars, Civil Service United, Kamuzu Barracks, Red Lions, Mafco FC, Mighty Tigers, Karonga United and newly-promoted sides Rumphi United, Sable Farming and Dedza Dynamos failed the test.

Said Jangale: “The report from the FIB states that only Blue Eagles met almost all the club licensing requirements, having scored 79 percent, earning themselves an outright licence.

“As for Bullets, Silver and Ekwendeni, they did fairly well, but still have some few areas to work on, as such, they were granted provisional licences on condition that they meet the requirements by end of the Super League first round.”

He said The People’s Team got 69 percent, Ekwendeni 67 percent while Silver got 60  percent.

Said Jangale: “As is the norm, the other 12 teams have up to Friday to run around and submit the necessary documents which the FIB will scrutinise this Saturday.

“If they still do not meet the requirements, then they will be demoted to the second-tier leagues.”

He said as it stands, only Eagles and the three other teams with provisional licences can play in the top-flight league.

Jangale also said except for Wanderers, Rumphi, KB, Civil Service United and Moyale, the rest of the teams that failed to make the grade will pay a K100 000 penalty each.

“The [above mentioned] five teams have been spared because they scored above 60 percent, but failed to meet crucial

requirements and once they do that, they will be issued with either outright or provisional licences,” he said.

Jangale said five teams, Sable Farming, Dedza, Red Lions, Mafco and Karonga got below 50 percent and have serious issues to address before re-assessment this Saturday

Eagles chairperson Alexander Ngwala said they were delighted to have comes tops.

He said: “All this has been possible because of the commitment from the executive committee to ensure that we follow the regulations governing club licencing.

“Above all, we thank the Malawi Police Service management for its utmost support financially as well as meeting the other core requirements of the team.”

Fifa introduced club licensing system to reinforce clubs’compliance with basic requirements.

However, the Super League has entered the seventh year with little progress made to professionalise the top-flight league.

The system has five pillars such as financial, sporting, legal, administrative and infrastructure
